--R'layn--
Age: 27 Turns
From the top of his head, complete with thick dirty blond hair cut in a fashionable shaggy cut, to the soles of his feet, R'layn is a tall young man with a good physique, muscle having built up on what may have once been a lanky frame. His light brown eyes have a faintly orange tinge to them when they catch the light, though they can never be mistaken for more than hazel. His face is lightly tanned, the dark brown of several small moles sticking out along his jawline, a faint dusting of freckles on the back of his thin neck. His nose is short and pointed; his eyebrows so pale a blonde as to appear almost invisible. His lips are thin and square, more often than not curved into a slight smile that threatens to broaden into a full-on grin. He's the sort of man one would probably not look at twice. There are several 'details' on him.
R'layn wears casual attire, a plain shirt of orange (though brown enough to seem almost the colour of rust) and tan shorts perfect for hot weather. His light brown sandals look to be hand-me-downs, battered and scuffed but serving their purpose of allowing air to circulate around his toes. The knot at his shoulder is that of a dragonrider, bronze thread twined with orange and black, marking him as the Istan Weyrleader. His patch is of the Belior Wing.
R'layn moves with a casual ease, unassuming and unthreatening. His arms often swing loosely at his sides, giving his movements a carefree appearance that matches the light tone of his adult voice. He looks to be about 27 Turns, 5 months, and 12 days old, and is around six feet tall.
Name Pronunciation: ruh-LANE
Personality:
R'layn used to be a boy who didn't seem to take anything seriously, especially not responsibility. He was also something of a loudmouth, often not thinking before he spoke or acted. Still, if someone told him not to do something he’d respect their wishes – manners were drilled into him from an early age and they'd stuck. It was after he Impressed bronze Talurith that he realised he'd have to buckle down and actually work properly. Not only did Talurith's desire to work have an effect on him, but being the weyrling to a bronze dragon seemed to make R'layn realised that life wasn't all fun and games, and that you had to work sometimes - and he'd rather not risk the life of his beloved weyrmate through not listening to lectures or doing exercises.
Background:
R'layn, born Rilayen, is a Weyrbred teenager whose parents are an old married couple. He has three brothers and a sister and is the second youngest child in his family. He grew up with his brothers and sisters but eventually his older siblings went off to find their own paths in life: 19-Turn-old Raliya is a Journeyman Harper, 24-Turn-old Lilraen is a messenger and 28-Turn-old Y’raer is a green rider at Ista Weyr. Layn and his 14-Turn-old sister Kayra live in the residents’ dormitories. At sixteen, his parents urged him to find something to do in life and he started looking for a job, which he was rather annoyed at having to do ("they can't make me do what I don't wanna!") Eventually his parents secured him a job as a scribe, correctly assuming that this would put Rilayen's writing skills to best use. Only a month or so into that job, however, Rilayen was Searched for Nolee's gold Nalaieth's and C'len's bronze Vildaeth's clutch. On the sands, a brown (who would later Impress to M'duk), clawed Rilayen's leg. The boy, leg bandaged with a belt hastily provided by Caitlyn, continued to stand. Then, the one bronze of the clutch, the third dragon hatched, sought out Rilayen. In that instant when their two minds combined to become one, Rilayen suddenly found himself to be R'layn, bronze Talurith's forever. Eight Turns on, R'layn is weyrmates to Noemie, rider of green Najiath, and the two have three children: Rylie, Eavie, and Noelyn, with a fourth on the way.
Talurith:
A large dragon, there is something about this bronze that portends greatness, despite his size. Perhaps it is the sturdy, mud-hued paws that outsize the rest of him; perhaps it is the substantial build of his stocky barrel chest; perhaps it is the muddy spatters of brown that speckle his gold-green hide. Those glossy colors shine over the wide reach of hardy wingspars and speckled sails, as if fresh-dipped in the river, then grow muted and murky around the curve of his lean belly. Water droplets seem to sparkle on his neckridges, trailing the length of his spine until they fade away into the pale tip of his tail. Curved headknobs and gleaming, narrow-set eyes are more understatement than omen. Most likely, that sense of distinction has to do with his confident carriage and the way he holds his head, as if a crooked smile might appear on his pointed maw to lend him an air of self-conscious celebrity and youthful charisma.
Talurith is 38.00 meters long, 16.11 meters tall at the shoulder and has a wingspan of 60.80 meters.
